BALAMIS
Spanish Patent pending.

Development and manufacture of cost-effective airborne and ground-based radars and radiometers. Flexible, accurate and non-intrusive solutions to soil moisture measurement.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

Development of systems that allow very fast and easy soil moisture mapping.

Technologies:
- SMIGOL: for constant monitoring and sensor networks
- ARIEL: for large extensions and mobile platforms

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY

The differentiating aspects of technologies are:

SMIGOL:
-Constant monitoring
- Data is obtained through non invasive methods
- Depth measurement: 20 cm
- Spatial resolution: < 2 m
- Possibility to create a large network of sensors
- Fully autonomous
- Proven robustness

ARIEL:
- Large extensions can be covered.
- Data is obtained through non invasive methods.
- Measurement depth: 30 cm.
- Spatial resolution: ~1/5 of the flight altitude.

The patents associated to this project are:
P201131082: System for acquiring geophysical parameters using navigation satellite signals.
P201390102: Airborne system for measuring the humidity of the terrain and the water content of the vegetation, and implementation method.

Co-development. Commercialization through a new (spinoff) company: Balam Ingenieria de Sistemas, SL.

APPLICATION

The technology has diversity of applications:
- Soil moisture measurement.
- Salinity detection: to distinguish between salt and fresh water, to detect sea water infiltrations.
- To inspect road asphalt.

The company has focused on meeting the needs of precision agriculture companies, infrastructure survey companies and research and governmental institutions
