ABSORBENT NANOFIBER FOR HEAVY METAL

Heavy metal absorbent material based on polymeric nanofibers. This material has been developed more specifically for the uptake and elimination of arsenic present in water. Technology suitable for water treatment companies or mining companies. This new absorbent material removes 6 times more Arsenic than any current absorbent systems.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

System based on nanomaterials for the elimination of arsenic in contaminated water. As a result of the research, it is planned to obtain a nanostructured material for the adsorption of arsenic in contaminated fluids.
The use of arsenic interaction with iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) and its dispersion over polyacrylonitril nanofibres (PAN) is sought.

One of the advantages of this type of material is its great absorption capacity. The arsenic removal is of the order of 1 g of arsenic taken up by 1 g of absorbent material. Commercial materials currently available only capture as much as 0.3 g of arsenic per gram of absorbent material.

Taking into account that the obtained material can be applied both as a water treatment and a specific problem of releasing a contaminant in a production company, potential users of the results obtained from the research line are:
- Producers of absorbents for the treatment of contaminated efluents.
> Producers of purified absorbents for pre-concentration processes in analytical techniques.
> Producers of systems or equipment for the treatment of waste water in municipal supply networks, agricultural industry, hotel complexes, campsites or general industry, that is, any liquid waste producer.
> Producers of systems for the development of catalytic processes.

The system has been tested at the laboratory level with "batch" trials for arsenic recovery, tests have been carried out increasing the volume of dissolution to be treated by continuous testing and with actual water samples.
